More people could be encouraged to switch energy practices as housing and communities minister Alex Neil has announced financial help for people living in inefficient properties.
Properties are currently rated on an A-G scale in relation to energy efficiency, with A being the highest and financial help being offered to homeowners who fall within the F and G bands, but this is now being extended to people within the E band as well, reports the BBC.
In addition, a further £2.5 million is to be fed into a fund helping provide insulation for people living in social housing.
Mr Neil told the BBC: "Too many families are struggling with unaffordable fuel prices that can mean a choice between cooking the dinner and keeping the house warm."
The government has pledged to insulate every home in the UK over the coming years in a bid to pursue cheap energy rates more effectively and reduce the national carbon footprint.
