The plans laid out by the Liberal Democrats for environmentally-friendly and cheap energy are the most ambitious of any of the main UK political parties, it has been stated.
Through its recently-launched election manifesto, the Lib Dems pledged that, if they get into power, they will oversee the construction of a number of new renewable energy projects, including wind and solar farms, across the UK.
As well as helping to create thousands of green jobs, it is hoped that such a policy would enable many homeowners to benefit from cheap energy, with proposed changes to the National Grid making sustainably-sourced power more efficient and affordable.
According to Greenpeace, such plans make the Lib Dems the most ambitious political party in terms of the environment and cheap energy,
"The Liberal Democrats have set out the most progressive environmental policies of all the major parties, and they now have a real chance to make them count," the charity's executive director John Sauven said.
Furthermore, the manifesto also lays out plans to make funding packages of up to £10,000 available to homeowners to help them carry out energy-efficiency projects, such as fitting double-glazing or loft insulation.
Meanwhile, Labour's Ed Miliband has argued that some senior Tories are climate change deniers, with the party having been "found wanting" on green issues.
