Many individuals may like to compare energy suppliers to find a cheap electricity deal using renewable power or improve their home's efficiency in order to do their bit to combat climate change.
A new report commissioned by secretary of state for energy and climate change Chris Huhne has warned that, if no action is taken to stem the problem, global temperatures could rise by between three and five degrees C this century.
The study, conducted by the Met Office Hadley Centre, warned this would lead to more extreme weather events such as flooding due to changes in rainfall patterns.
Mr Huhne called for legally binding international agreements to cut greenhouse gas emissions, noting that if this is achieved, the worst of the changes can be avoided.
The minister recently unveiled a new Carbon Plan for the UK detailing how the country can transition to a low carbon economy, which calls for greater use of renewable energy and more efficient buildings.
