Over half (56 per cent) of UK homeowners could be inclined to install solar panels on their house in order to save money by switching to cheap electricity, research has shown.
According to Click Green, a survey carried out by Sharp Solar found the government's feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme has worked well to inform customers wanting to compare energy supplies of the benefits of photovoltaic panels.
Some 62 per cent of respondents said they are more aware of the green energy initiative 12 months on from its launch, while 48 per cent said they are more likely to install energy-saving solar equipment because of the scheme.
Andrew Lee, head of international sales at Sharp Solar, commented: "Since the FIT was introduced it has been an unprecedented success for businesses, industry and consumers."
He added that political debate over the future of the scheme should not overshadow what he deemed to be "a hugely successful year" or reduce consumer confidence in green energy.
