E.ON warn on UK's future energy - 17/08/2012

Energy supplier E.ON has warned progress needs to be made by the government with its energy reforms to ensure consumers can access secure, cheap electricity in the coming years.

It comes as the firm gave an update on the future of its Kingsnorth coal-fired power station in Kent, which is due to be taken offline by March next year.

The facility currently creates enough electricity to power 750,000 homes and will initially have its generating capacity cut from 1,940MW to 970MW in December in preparation for the closure.

Sara Vaughan, director of regulation and strategy at E.ON UK, said: "The further removal of capacity from the UK power system ... reinforces the need for the UK to push forward with its proposals to reform the market through the current Energy Bill."
