Individuals in Scotland who are looking to get cheap energy by upgrading to a modern boiler may be able to benefit from additional funds that have been made available by the country's government.
Cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital development Alex Neil confirmed the boiler scrappage scheme is to receive a further £500,000 to help homeowners make their heating systems more efficient.
It is estimated up to 1,000 households could benefit from up to £400 in funding to upgrade to an energy efficient boiler.
Mr Neil said: "Almost 12,000 households have applied for vouchers under the scheme since June 2011 and each household could make savings of up to £300 per year on their fuel bills."
He urged anyone who is thinking of replacing their old boiler to contact the Home Energy Scotland Hotline as soon as possible, as the scheme is administered an a first-come, first-served basis.
Recently, British Gas stated old boilers could be operating at as little as 30 per cent of the efficiency of newer models, so urged individuals to consider upgrading as soon as they can afford to do so.
