Cornish groups to save £7,000 a year with solar panels - 29/07/2011

Householders wanting to compare energy and switch gas deals to get cheaper tariffs might be interested to hear that buildings in Cornwall are set to be fitted with solar photovoltaic panels.

Sustainable energy charity Community Energy Plus launched a £20 million scheme after securing an investment package from local installers, meaning community buildings such as schools and churches could soon be sporting green electricity generating equipment on their roofs.

This could see organisations save £7,000 on their electricity deals if they use all the energy to heat and power their premises, or they could export the power to the national grid and receive an income of up to £2,400 a year.

Sustainable energy projects manager Neil Farrington commented: "At a time when grant funding for such initiatives has greatly reduced and energy bills are continually rising, this offer provides a fantastic but limited-time opportunity for community buildings to secure multiple benefits of the renewable energy revolution."
