Reforms to the energy market could help secure cheap energy bills for more customers.
This is the view from Consumer Focus, which has called for a raft of improvements to the way energy suppliers relate to their customers.
Mike O'Connor, chief executive of Consumer Focus, commented: "Consumers simply don't trust that energy companies have customers' interests at heart and rightly question whether prices are fair."
The measures include opening up the market to new suppliers, reviewing the structure of the market and boosting transparency so Ofgem can determine whether energy bills are fair.
The consumer group also demanded a stop to "complex and confusing" energy tariffs and an end to cold-calling techniques, such as doorstepping, which last week Scottish and Southern Energy announced it was halting with immediate effect.
