Consumers have been urged to check their meter readings very carefully in order to avoid underpaying their energy suppliers.
According to the Daily Mail's This is Money, householders should always make sure that their electricity and gas bills match up exactly with their meter readings.
Customers whose bills are based on estimates which do not match their meters are advised to get in touch with their energy suppliers immediately and give them an accurate meter reading, which can then to used to recalculate their bills.
The publication also highlighted the importance of keeping in regular contact with energy suppliers to let them know about any home alterations that could affect domestic or business energy usage.
"Make sure you let your energy supplier know if you make changes to your home that mean you'll be using more or less energy," This is Money commented. "For example, if your children move out or if you have loft insulation fitted."
According to Geothermal International, increased funding for heat pumps could make people more likely to take advantage of cheap energy.
