Customers wishing to switch gas 'should look at energy consumption' - 05/10/2010

The Telegraph has advised customers wishing to switch gas or electricity suppliers to carefully read through their annual energy statement, which should be dropping through their letterboxes in the run up to Christmas.

Customers will receive their statement from their energy suppliers, which will document how much power they have used in their homes over the last year and how much they are expected to use in the coming 12 months.

The newspaper reports that on paper, this statement will make it easier for energy customers to decide whether they want to switch gas or electricity provider.

"Knowing which tariff you are on and how much it is costing you should also make it easier to shop around using a price comparison site," the article states.

Meanwhile, Ofgem has announced that energy bills might be increased by an annual average of £6 over the next decade to help meet the £32 billion cost of updating Britain's ageing energy infrastructure while moving the country to a low-carbon economy.
