Bulk buying schemes 'can save money on fuel' - 02/06/2011
Householders who want to compare energy prices because they are struggling to pay their bills could take part in a oil bulk buying scheme to save money on heating costs.
According to Pauline High, office manager for Norfolk Rural Community Council and the administrator for its Thinking Fuel scheme, rural householders get cheaper fuel prices when they participate in a bulk buying programme.
"They go into a scheme within an area and … work with a facility who supply or get the oil cheaper. By buying it in the [same] postcode, the people that are ordering the oil are trying to order it [for] it the same day, so it saves on transport costs as well," she noted.
She explained that the price of fuel is currently fluctuating because of various world events, so people are never sure how much a litre of oil is going to cost in a few months time.
Ms High added that when joining a group of people, domestic energy users can get a lower price for fuel than they would working alone.
