Rising energy prices being felt by many households - 18/07/2011
Rising energy prices could persuade people to compare energy deals and switch gas tariffs if they find a cheaper option.
Mark Bower, managing director of moneymaxim.co.uk, pointed out: "The steady increase in the cost of household bills has a marked impact, particularly on those currently struggling to make ends meet.
"The problem is that currently it feels as if there is no end to the rises, and the pain felt is therefore both deeper and affecting more households," he noted.
Until household income starts rising again, many families will continue facing the challenge of paying for their energy use, Mr Bower added.
His remarks came in light of government figures showing 5.5 million households fell into fuel poverty in 2009, which was a million more than in the previous year.
Price hikes from energy suppliers ScottishPower and British Gas could help drive this number even higher in 2011.
