British Gas stops doorstep sales for three months - 15/08/2011

A second of the Big Six energy suppliers is to suspend its doorstep sales activity, energy comparison customers might be interested to learn.

British Gas has followed Scottish and Southern Energy's example and halted doorstep sales for a three-month period in a bid to rebuild trust in the energy sector.

It comes after Consumer Focus asked all major energy suppliers to stop this particular form of cold-calling for 90 days and offer appointments to householders before turning up.

British Gas' managing director of energy Ian Peters commented: "Doorstep selling, in its current form, is no longer a sustainable way to engage or build a relationship with customers.

"We want the energy advice we give our customers to be trusted and delivered at a time and place that is convenient to them," he added.

Meanwhile, the energy supplier's price hike of 18 per cent for gas and 16 per cent for electricity users is set to come into effect this Thursday (August 18th).
