Scottish Borders receives funding to cut fuel poverty - 30/09/2011

Householders in the Scottish Borders who are struggling to find cheap gas and cheap electricity tariffs should compare energy deals online and make their homes more energy efficient to save on heating this winter.

They may also be eligible to apply for a government funding scheme that will allow them to have free home insulation fitted in order to reduce the levels of fuel poverty in Scotland.

Last year, the Borders were hit by ice and snow which resulted in many people having boiler trouble. Now that the Scottish Borders Council has secured a further £380,000 to improve home energy efficiency, these individuals could be the first to receive help.

Berwickshire MSP John Lamont commented: "I am pleased that households in the Borders will benefit from this scheme to improve efficiency and drive down domestic fuel bills.

"With fuel prices continuing to rise, householders in the Borders need any help they can get in keeping their bills under control."
