Renewable energy projects in Scotland are expected to be given a boost following an announcement from the energy secretary.
Chris Huhne said earlier this week that Scotland will be "mission critical" in the movement towards a low carbon economy in the UK.
As such, green energy projects ought to be encouraged in the country.
Mr Huhne noted that the global events of the last few months have brought home the seriousness of energy security.
He pointed out that last April's oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, followed by a range of protests in Middle East nations have added to the debate over how fast we should move to a low carbon society.
Mr Huhne added: "From Tokyo to Tunis, what's happening in the world today reminds us that the energy choices we make now matter in the long term.
"Our challenge is to come up with an energy policy that delivers safe, secure and low-carbon energy to 2050 and beyond."
