Consumers might wish to compare energy tariffs and switch gas and electricity deals now before the next round of price hikes.
It now seems likely that British Gas parent company Centrica will be implementing its own price increases, after Consumer Focus quoted a spokesperson as saying: "On the balance of probabilities we will reluctantly put prices up in next few weeks."
This was tweeted from the Energy and Climate Change Committee, in which representatives from ScottishPower and Scottish and Southern Energy joined MPs and other industry figures to discuss their plans for putting up costs.
It comes after ScottishPower announced a 19 per cent rise in the price of gas and a ten per cent hike on electricity expenses, which has prompted half a million consumers a week to switch to different energy plans.
