SSE to offer renewable heating solutions - 01/05/2012

SSE is set to help customers in Scotland obtain cheap energy supplies from green sources though a new renewable heat scheme.

The firm's subsidiary Scottish Hydro will initially offer households in Aberdeenshire the opportunity to invest in new technologies such as solar thermal systems, ground and air source heat pumps and biomass boilers in order to keep their homes warm.

For the past year, the company has been working with the University of Strathclyde to develop a design tool that allows each dwelling to be fitted with a tailor-made solution appropriate to its needs.

Head of development at Scottish Hydro Steve Storey said: "We are really excited about the launch of our Renewable Installation capabilities," adding the response so far has been "very promising".

People elsewhere in the country looking to use green technologies may be able to take advantage of the government's Renewable Heat Incentive, which can offer grants to assist with the installation of such measures.
