Business energy clients may find there are some benefits to climate change because of the market opportunities it will bring, the UK Climate Impacts Programme has stated.
Kay Johnstone, project officer at the organisation, pointed out: "Obviously the main impact of climate change overall is negative, but for individual sectors or organisations there will be some benefits, and there's nothing wrong with trying to exploit those benefits."
These may include new processes and activities that will become "more economically viable", such as growing agricultural crops, she said.
"I don't think it's any longer taboo to talk about the opportunities of climate change while still saying that reducing our emissions is the most important thing," Ms Johnstone added.
Her comments come after the Guardian highlighted research from Natural England and Network Rail discussing the potential of climate change boosting domestic tourism in the UK.
Longer, warmer summers could convince more holidaymakers to stay at home in the future, the reports concluded.
