Saving energy 'makes positive impact on profit margins' - 18/08/2011
Business energy clients can make a significant difference to their profit margins by finding cheap electricity tariffs and cutting energy usage.
This was the advice given by Donald Maclean, managing director at Business Cost Consultants, who noted that in the last few years, the cost of commercial electricity, gas and water has soared.
"This can be quite significant, given that utility costs, on average, account for between five and ten per cent of most companies' annual budgets."
He suggested that companies purchase energy efficient equipment in order to make long-term savings, and opt for the best energy saving appliances available.
"It's also crucial that businesses monitor their energy consumption to identify areas where savings can be made. If you're not confident about how to use the data, there are energy consultants out there that can help," Mr Maclean explained.
A staff awareness campaign can also help company employees get onboard with the energy saving message so before long, turning off computers, printers, lights and photocopiers at the end of the day becomes second nature.
