Many business energy users in the UK could be more able to get cheap electricity if they install wind turbines at their facilities.
This is according to research conducted by green energy supplier Ecotricity and environmental charity Friends of the Earth, which estimated such solutions can cut costs by up to 35 per cent.
It was noted that despite 95 per cent of wind turbine proposals on industrials gaining approval, only a small number of firms currently take advantage of this.
Founder of Ecotricity Dale Vince said: "Building wind power on-site and supplying it directly to a factory, a distribution centre or port not only cuts carbon emissions but because you don't need to transport electricity via the grid, energy costs can be slashed."
Recently, Friends of the Earth stated the recently announced reforms to the UK's electricity market are the "last chance" for the government to live up to its green promises.
