Energy supplier to make wind farm plans public - 20/01/2009

Major energy supplier Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, is to provide public access to its plans for a wind farm off the Lincolnshire and Norfolk coasts.

The Docking Shoals offshore wind farm is proposed for the Greater Wash area and would consist of 177 turbines generating 500MW of electricity several miles from the shoreline. The project has already had authorisation to begin seabed development and an Environmental Impact Assessment was conducted late last year. The project has been designed to help reduce UK emissions and ultimately provide cheap energy.

Alan Thompson, head of renewables at Centrica, said: "The next generation of wind farms are really starting to show what wind can deliver for the UK and it's really important that we engage with people in the area on the plans."

Mr Thompson added that the environmental assessments were intended to reassure people who were unconvinced by the project, while the public exhibitions would give people the opportunity to offer their own comments.
