Govt's cheap energy saving initiative hailed as 'positive development' - 06/04/2010

The Renewable Energy Centre has hailed the government's CRC cheap energy efficiency scheme as a positive development in the drive to reduce emissions.

The CRC and feed-in tariffs schemes will see revenue raised from the sale of emissions allowances recycled back to participants, with those who have increased cheap energy efficiency receiving more money.

A spokesperson for the Renewable Energy Centre said the schemes will benefit those who generate renewable business energy and electricity, particularly larger firms, which will be able to afford the initial outlay in order to start receiving returns.

"This is one of the most positive initiatives which the government has implemented and one which will encourage businesses to invest because of the potential financial rewards," she said.

"Many of the larger businesses across the UK will also see this as an excellent way to show the public they are serious about climate change and reducing carbon emissions."

The two energy saving schemes are aimed at helping the UK reduce emissions by at least 34 per cent of 1990 levels by 2020.
