Homebuyers 'take cheap energy efficiency issues into consideration' - 06/08/2010

A new survey reveals that an increasing number of homebuyers are taking sustainable cheap energy issues into consideration before they purchase a property.

According to a survey conducted by glass manufacturer Pilkington, three-quarters (76 per cent) of homebuyers say energy efficiency is a key issue they consider when deciding whether or not to by a property.

Despite the professed importance of energy efficiency among homebuyers, many are clueless when it comes to assessing how eco-friendly a home actually is. Just over one in four (27 per cent) of people questioned said they know how to judge a home's energy efficiency.

Pilkington has embarked on the MOT Your Home initiative fronted by architect and TV presenter George Clarke to highlight the importance of energy-saving initiatives.

"It's reassuring that energy efficiency is creeping up the wish-list of key considerations for house buyers, particularly as simple steps like turning down your thermostat and fitting energy-saving light bulbs, can really make a difference to energy bills," Mr Clarke said.
