Monitoring system 'could cut bills' - 23/05/2011

Business energy clients might be able to cut their commercial energy bills by investing in a monitoring system.

Npower's encompass software has just been launched in an upgraded version and promises to analyse energy usage in detail, meaning companies can see where they use the most power and where they can afford to cut back.

Some 30,000 sites already use encompass but the newest version has updated or new features, including a bespoke dashboard that can be customised to incorporate the most important and frequently used measures.

A colour-coded Google Maps feature has been added so that commercial electricity users can tell which properties in their portfolio are performing best against their energy cutting targets, while the alarm feature means users can be informed about their costs, carbon emissions or energy consumption at a glance.

Dave Lewis, head of business energy services at the energy supplier, commented: "The enhanced encompass provides all the functions of the previous system, in helping businesses identify where and how energy is being used and implement measures to reduce it, but it delivers the information in a much more personal and business-specific way."
