Small business energy clients could be offered greater financial protection under proposals put forward by Ofgem.
According to the Daily Mail, the energy watchdog is considering plans to ban rollover contracts and tighten up regulation of brokers.
This could make it easier for companies to switch gas and electricity providers when they wish.
Anthony Andrews, business energy manager at energyhelpline.com, comments: "We have always strived to provide our customers with concise, free and impartial information when guiding them to switch their commercial gas and electricity."
He added: "We want to make sure that our customers are fully aware of 'automatic rollovers' that could cost them thousands of pounds a year and welcome any legislation that empowers small to medium firms."
Businesses could switch electricity before the next round of price hikes.
