Homeowners looking to compare energy rates could be encouraged by news that the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is signing up to the 10:10 campaign.
The 10:10 campaign is encouraging participants to reduce their carbon emissions by ten per cent by the end of 2010, lowering the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere and potentially helping to reduce the impact of prices from energy suppliers too, reports the Guardian.
Criticism has been levelled at the government as the DECC's own building recently received the lowest possible energy efficiency score, as did the Home Office and the Department of Health.
The 10:10 campaign has received considerable high-profile celebrity support, while 51 councils around the UK have also signed up to its targets.
Organisations across the country could pursue business energy savings by installing more efficient LED lighting and taking additional measures such as keeping non-essential electrical equipment turned off at weekends and each night.
Smaller acts such as turning off water coolers can also help.
