Many households have been unable to receive heating from their energy suppliers due to long waiting lists for boiler replacements, an expert has said.
Blane Judd, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE), said trailing lists for Warm Front funded boiler replacements have left vulnerable households without heating for long periods of time.
"Our understanding is that 96 installers were appointed by tender process by Eaga, the organisation appointed by the government to deliver the Warm Front service throughout England," he said.
Mr Judd called on CIPHE-registered heating professionals to be mobilised quickly in order to tackle the backlog.
"[Eaga] are clearly not able to meet the demand," he said. "It is time for a second tranche of
registered heating professionals to be put in place to cut through the waiting lists."
Mr Judd added that by using registered heating professionals with the right qualifications to carry out work to the highest standard, the time taken to get more Warm Front installers on the road could be significantly reduced.
