Govt urged to develop cheap energy projects with business leaders - 31/08/2010
Environmental campaigners Greenpeace have called on the government to work with the business community to develop cheap energy initiatives.
Louise Hutchins, Greenpeace solutions campaigners, said that if the government works with the UK's business community to develop a low-carbon economy, they will be able to fully pull the country out of the recession and give it a competitive advantage.
Ms Hutchins said diverting investment to green industries is one of the ways to develop a low-carbon economy and revealed that the UK is heading in that direction - the only question is whether the country will get there in pole position.
Earlier this year, Greenpeace launched its Energy Revolution report, which set out a "blueprint for revolutionising a broken energy economy".
The paper provides a comprehensive outline for cutting carbon emissions while stimulating economic growth by replacing fossil fuels with renewable cheap energy and implementing a range of energy efficiency projects.
