The problem with rolling out green cheap energy is that there are not enough people in the UK with the skills and training necessary to maintain such technology, the Centre for Alternative Technology has stated.
Alex Randall, spokesman for the organisation, commented that this is the area that the government should be focusing on.
"The lack of people with the necessary skills is actually a bigger problem than resource depletion when it comes to moving to a zero carbon society. Resource depletion is rapidly becoming a problem in many areas - most notably energy," he pointed out.
"The only sensible solution is to begin to change so that we are less dependent on scarce sources."
This will involve a switch to renewable energy and the training of thousands of people in new skills, Mr Randall added.
His comments come after the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs suggested that materials such as timber and water, as well as other resources needed to build high technology products, are under threat.
