Energy efficiency measures 'could add to home's value' - 06/04/2011

Making energy efficiency improvements to a home could not only see more people switch energy provider to find a cheaper deal, they could also add value to a property.

Jim Hustwit, UK manager at MyHammer, said installing a new central heating system could raise the value of an older house.

"Recently the trend has been environmental, so making sure the house is up to scratch in terms of double glazing, insulation - whether that is simply loft insulation or wall cavity insulation [can increase its saleability]," he noted.

"These are all ways that people are not only adding value to their property, but while they are still living there they end up saving money on their heating bills."

Mr Hustwit's comments come after research from Zoopla.co.uk found improved confidence in the future of the housing market combined with the arrival of spring has seen more homeowners plan to carry out improvements to their property in the next six months.
