Energy monitors 'save money' - 04/04/2011

Domestic customers using cheap energy in Plymouth have found a new way to save money: by monitoring their power use.

The city council has provided residents with energy monitors made available through Plymouth libraries, which can save each household between five and 15 per cent of their power consumption simply by making them more aware of their habits.

Information collected by the device can then reveal the areas of the house where consumers might be able to cut back energy use, such as by turning off lights when a room is not occupied.

Councillor Ted Fry commented: "Reducing energy use is not only the responsible thing to do it can also save householders a significant amount of money off their fuel bills.

He added: "This little device is easy to use and free to borrow from the council so people can get a bit of help in cutting electricity use and saving money."
