Renewable energy is set to receive a boost after The Co-operative Group pledged to support an action research project to investigate current and potential obstacles.
Click Green reports that the group is teaming up with Co-operatives UK to look into how the renewable energy industry can thrive in the UK and what local community-owned initiatives can do to support the green energy sector.
Paul Monaghan, head of social goals and sustainability at the group, told the news source that Britain needs "collective solutions" in order to meet its carbon reduction targets.
He noted: "Through our support for community renewable energy groups we know that there is huge commitment to finding locally owned solutions to climate change."
Mr Monaghan added that it is important for the co-operative sector to work together to encourage and support such groups. These groups can help develop renewable energy supplies to make green energy cheaper for UK households.
