Wales 'failing to meet' green energy targets - 23/11/2011

Welsh consumers looking to perform an energy comparison to find cheap electricity deals using green sources may be interested to hear the country's government has been criticised for failing to meet its targets.

Wales Online reports that figures from the Department for Energy and Climate Change revealed power generation from renewables fell by 0.3 per cent last year compared with 2008.

At the same time, green energy use in the UK as a whole rose by 20 per cent.

Gareth Clubb, director of Friends of the Earth Cymru, said this is evidence Wales is failing to meet its large potential for green power.

He added: "The Welsh government's flagship target on renewable energy has been missed by such a huge margin it's embarrassing."

Recently, it was stated by communications director at Renewables UK Charles Austin that power sources such as wind energy will be vital in helping to stem continued rises in electricity bills by making the UK less reliant on imported gas.
