Scottish govt launches green home scheme - 01/03/2012

The Scottish government has launched a new programme that will help people who are looking to get cheap electricity from renewable energy.

Backed by the Energy Saving Trust, The Green Homes Network allows people to visit abodes that are excellent examples of what can be achieved with domestic green power installations.

Director of operations at Energy Saving Trust, Scotland Malcolm Thomson said as fuel prices continue to rise, many people may be looking to install renewable sources to cut their bills and will be keen to find out more about their options.

Energy minister Fergus Ewing added: "It's a practical, simple way to help people find out more about how to reduce their carbon footprint, learning from the experiences of householders who have already taken the first steps."

Recently, STV reported the Scottish government has been urged by a parliamentary select committee to do more to tackle fuel poverty in the nation, which may affect 35 per cent of homes.
