Home improvements 'can make a big difference' to energy bills - 08/06/2012

Making renovations to a home could be highly useful to people who are looking to get cheap electricity and gas bills.

This is according to Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council, who said insulation is one key area homeowners need to invest in if they have not already done so.

"Insulation is one of the most economical solutions to energy efficiency," the expert said, adding: "It is low priced, very cost efficient and will have a couple of years' payback period."

Mr Leech also observed it could be advantageous to replace windows with double-glazing to help keep heat in, while he noted there are many minor things homeowners can do over the summer to make their home as efficient as possible.

Previously, the expert had stated it is important people are given more incentives and support to encourage them to make renovations to their home, while government schemes need to offer affordable solutions.
