SSE expects to see rise in profits - 01/02/2012

Electricity and gas provider SSE is on course to record an increase in its profits for the 2011/12 financial year.

The firm also said domestic energy customers would have seen their bills fall in the nine months to the end of December 2011, with the typical dual fuel user spending £710.

This compares with £760 for the corresponding period in 2010, SSE stated.

Last month, the firm announced a 4.5 per cent cut in its domestic gas prices from March 26th, which should save the average customer around £28 a year.

Chief executive of SSE Ian Marchant said the past year "has been characterised by continuing economic uncertainty and ongoing challenges in global energy markets", something he predicted is set to continue in 2012.

He also said he was pleased with the progress made on several major capital projects, such as wind farms and electricity transmission upgrades.
