Announcements of rising profits by electricity and gas providers will lead many people to wonder if they are paying a fair price for energy, it has been stated.
Last week, EDF said it made £1.6 billion profit in 2011, while SSE has also predicted it will see its margins increase.
Director of energy at Consumer Focus Audrey Gallacher said these announcements will raise expectations among customers that companies are able to cut their prices further.
She added: "We know many consumers don't trust their supplier and getting greater clarity over pricing and profits is key to rebuilding faith in this market."
Ms Gallacher said it is therefore vital Ofgem reacts to recent studies and implements regulations to ensure information is fully transparent and users have the details they need to make performing a price comparison straightforward.
