Ofgem urged to act in business energy disputes - 02/03/2012

Ofgem has been called on to do more to help business energy clients who are in dispute with their supplier.

It was stated by This is Money small firms may be unable to cope with a lengthy and financially-damaging process if they feel they are being treated unfairly, which could put their survival in jeopardy.

Therefore, the publication noted firms that have offered their views to the regulator may be keen to hear what action will be taken to deal with problems such as mis-selling, expensive rollout contracts and complaints resolutions.

It highlighted the case of one small firm in Lancashire that was pushed to the brink of closure by a five-year dispute with its energy supplier.

Children's play centre owner Steve Proctor explained he was repeatedly rolled over to a new annual contract without his knowledge and was prevented from switching to a new provider.

A deadline for enterprises to submit their views to an Ofgem consultation on the business energy market passed last month, the publication stated.
