More than half of business energy customers in the UK are concerned about the impact rising gas and electricity prices will have on their organisation.
This is according to a survey conducted by monitoring firm Zeco Energy, which revealed 51 per cent of respondents stated this is a major worry.
Despite this, only 19 per cent of firms give responsibility for energy management to their finance team, even though this of one of the highest expenses many companies face.
Elsewhere, this task falls to employees such as office managers, facilities managers or reception staff, with 14 per cent of enterprises assigning no accountability for energy tracking.
Jon Kent, founder and managing director of Zeco Energy, said: "This research underlines the fact that finance teams need to do more to tackle avoidable waste and reduce the burden of what is often a major operational expenditure for the business."
It was also recently stated by Frank Hyldmar, executive vice-president for Electricity International at metering firm Elster, that a "surprising number" of businesses have no idea how much gas and electricity their organisation is consuming, Energy Live News reported.
