Cheap energy firm to give away £1bn worth of solar panels - 09/08/2010

A company that generates cheap energy from the sun has launched a new scheme to give away free solar panels to homes across the UK.

HomeSun will dish out £1 billion worth of solar panels to around 100,000 homes across the country, enabling them to generate their own energy and lower their consumption from energy suppliers.

Under the scheme, HomeSun will pay for the solar panels to allow homeowners to take advantage of cheap energy and will recoup the cost through the government's Feed-in Tariffs scheme.

Daniel Green, chief executive officer at HomeSun, said: "I think it is a brilliant way to get us to grid parity where there is no contribution needed by utilities or government and we are all benefiting from solar power."

Meanwhile, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Consumer Focus urged consumers to seek legal advice and carry out research before they take up free solar panel offers.
