Homes 'to receive tailored advice about energy efficiency - 02/02/2011

Energy comparison customers could soon receive information about making their homes greener under government proposals.

Unveiled by communities minister Andrew Stunell, the plans include offering tailored advice to homeowners and tenants about how to save money by reducing energy usage around the home.

Under the Green Deal, businesses specialising in home upgrades could access the energy efficiency information about homes with an Energy Performance Certificate and then offer to carry out work to improve the efficiency of properties.

Mr Stunell commented: "It's right that homeowners and tenants across the country are given the opportunity to make their homes warmer and cheaper to run.

"The Green Deal will lead to a revolution in energy efficiency of homes across the country," he added.

However, those do not want to be approached by upgrade companies have the option to opt out of the initiative, while safeguards will be put in place to ensure homeowner and tenant personal details are not available for businesses to see.
