Energy comparison is one way through which people can reduce their costs but installing home insulation is also very effective, cheap energy users will be interested to learn.
The National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) has said that not insulating properties is a "false economy" because there are multiple advantages for consumers.
Andrew Leech, director at the organisation, pointed out many Britons prefer to spend money on items like a new television or taking another holiday.
He added that, in his view, these are "completely the wrong lines" to go down.
"If they go down the improvement line first of all, get that underway and finished, then, with what you are saving from your insulation improvements, you can afford the other things," Mr Leech explained.
"Insulation is a hidden benefit."
The comments come after a report from E.ON, one of the UK's largest energy suppliers, revealed that one in ten households are missing out on cost savings by not having their homes insulated.
