More people in eastern England could be set to compare energy prices after an official suggested large increases in utility bills are on the way.
According to Colin Davie, chairman of the environmental scrutiny committee at Lincolnshire County Council, energy bills may increase by as much as £500 in 2013, the Lincolnshire Echo reports.
This, he said, is unfair at a time when consumers are already being crippled by excessive prices.
Indeed, Mr Davie argued that energy costs have become so high that many are experiencing ill health as a result.
"These energy companies no longer act in the customer's best interest - it's just wrong," he commented.
Mr Davie suggested that a high or low tariff similar to the system that used to be in place should be implemented.
He said he can think of no reason why a return to this way of calculating energy costs cannot be adopted once again.
Thinkinsulation.co.uk has already suggested people fit loft and cavity wall insulation in order to reduce their outlay on gas and electricity, as this could cut bills by hundreds of pounds every year.
