Energy firm calls for end to exit fees - 27/01/2012
People looking to perform an energy comparison and switch provider may agree with a call from one energy supplier to end exit penalties for fixed-price tariffs.
Co-operative Energy noted that while some individuals are prepared to pay a premium for the insurance of having fixed bills, many are frustrated they are trapped into long-term contracts as prices begin to fall.
Therefore, it has started a campaign to eliminate exit penalties for domestic energy users who are looking to switch to a cheaper deal.
The firm stated: "A market in which people are free to switch supplier at any time, without penalty, will help to keep suppliers on their toes and ensure that suppliers have to keep their prices competitive."
Last week, Co-operative Energy announced it would pay the exit fees of the first 10,000 customers who switch to its service from a competing fixed-price tariff.
