Local campaigner diverts efforts to promoting renewable cheap energy - 04/05/2010

A woman who has campaigned against wind farms being built too close to homes has diverted her attention to promoting renewable cheap energy.

Cherie Blenkin, spokeswoman for South Holderness Opposes Wind Turbines, is known for waging a battle against wind turbines being built in contravention of local planning laws.

According to This is Hull & East Riding, after a series of planning appeals went in favour of energy suppliers, Mrs Blenkin said she will now devote her time and energy to promoting green projects which will benefit the local community.

"We have onshore and off shore wind farms, straw-burning plants, BP's ethanol plant and more here so we have become a centre for renewable energy," she told the publication.

"We need to promote the area to attract renewable industry which will provide jobs and stimulate regeneration."

Mrs Blenkin added that her role in South Holderness Opposes Wind Turbines is "nearly extinct" but she hopes to continue to promote public interests as an ambassador.

Last month, Mrs Blenkin urged politicians to halt construction of wind farms in parts of East Yorkshire in order to prevent the area from becoming a "dumping ground" for turbines.
