With energy suppliers increasing the prices of utilities, there has never been a better time to implement efficiency measures in the home, an expert has said.
Tim Doherty, managing director of the National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon, said it is important for homeowners to keep their properties as energy efficient as possible and insulation is one effective method of doing this.
He pointed out that not only can homeowners save money on labour by laying down their own insulation, but they can also save money on their fuel bills in the long term.
"Loft insulation can be an effective place to start and can probably save you £300 if you lay it yourself," Mr Doherty said.
He continued: "For an average living room, the whole process is probably a week's work, so savings can be significant, depending on how big the job is."
Mr Doherty's comments coincide with World Green Building Week, which aims to promote awareness of green buildings across the world.
