Energy efficiency can save money on heating bills - 02/06/2011

Becoming more energy efficient can help energy comparison customers save on their heating bills.

This is the advice from David Jullien, chief executive of Act on Energy, who noted: "Heating oil is predominantly used in central heating boilers - this probably contributes around half, maybe 60 per cent, of the total energy bill, so it's certainly something you can target."

He pointed out that most heat is lost through inefficient homes, so taking steps to keep it inside the property, such as by installing insulation and double glazing, could lead to reduced bills.

"If you're in a rural area and it's an old house it can be quite difficult, but there are still opportunities available to you," he explained.

Domestic energy users in rural parts of the country have more of a problem than those living in towns and cities because many have no access to cheap gas and electricity.

"If you don't have access to cheap fuel then whatever energy you lose is expensive energy," Mr Jullien remarked.
