Npower has become the first of the Big Six energy suppliers to promise that its staff will not try to sell products or services while there are fitting smart meters in cheap energy customers' homes.
The energy supplier has signed up to Which?'s 'no selling, just installing' smart meter challenge after the consumer group's research found 11.5 million customers feel under pressure when representatives from energy companies come to sell on their doorstep.
Volker Beckers, group chief executive at RWE npower, commented: "We want to continue to build a trusted partnership with customers and think that the Which? challenge is a great way of displaying our commitment, sending a clear signal that we're focused on delivering a quick, efficient and safe smart meter installation to customers."
Which? executive director Richard Lloyd has urged the rest of the major suppliers to follow in npower's footsteps and sign the pledge.
