Thousands of consumers in Scotland could secure cheap gas and cheap electricity bills thanks to new government funding.
The Scottish government is giving several councils a total of £12.5 million with which to improve the energy efficiency of 200,000 homes with no cost to householders.
Alex Neil, cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital investment, explained: "With the onset of winter just round the corner, now more than ever, we need to offer support and immediate assistance to those most in need to help them heat their homes and stay energy efficient."
He argued that price hikes by energy suppliers are undermining the government's efforts to lift people out of fuel poverty.
"It is a disgrace that so many people are suffering from fuel poverty in energy-rich Scotland, and the Scottish parliament needs full powers so that we can do more to help those in most need," Mr Neil added.
