Many people in the UK may find performing an energy comparison in order to find a cheap deal is a higher priority than searching out an eco-friendly tariff.
It was noted by campaign manager at Global Warming Alliance Louise Burfitt-Dons that in the current financial situation, individuals are more concerned about paying their bills than doing their bit to tackle climate change.
"They are far too concerned with making ends meet on a day-to-day basis. They don't want to hear about any further green taxes on top of that," she said.
Ms Burfitt-Dons noted the UK government is performing well with its response to the challenges posed by climate change - particularly when compared with conservatives in Australia and the US, who are "completely dismissive" of the issue.
However, while she said putting a legally-binding green framework in place is a good start, the coalition needs to ensure it is implemented effectively in order to reap the benefits.
Putting measures in place to deal with climate change may be essential for businesses, as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors recently warned millions of pounds are set to be spent in additional energy bills due to a greater need for air conditioning.
